Frequently-asked questions about Yoga
What kind of Yoga does Cecilia teach?
Cecilia’s yoga classes combine physical postures called “asanas” with mindful breathing to explore a progressively deeper awareness of the body, mind, and spirit. Classes and private lessons are based on classic Hatha Yoga principles of alignment and symmetry. Classes are taught in small groups to ensure the opportunity for individual attention and to challenge each student appropriately.
- Postures are used to relax and tone the muscles
- Gentle movements are introduced to ease joint and muscular restrictions
- Breathing techniques are used to regulate the body’s energy level
- Meditations are offered to calm the mind
- Relaxation postures are used to reduce and eliminate stress.
What are the benefits of Yoga?
In addition to its physical benefits, a regular yoga practice can bring a newfound sense of well-being and renewal by improving sleep patterns and energy levels, and teaching new skills for handling the stresses of everyday life.
I’m not very flexible. Will Yoga be too challenging for me?
Cecilia will encourage you to work at your own pace. Whether you are very flexible or have never been able to touch your toes, yoga postures can be modified to fit you and your body. Props (straps, blocks, bolsters, blankets, sandbags, and more) assist with balance and alignment of the body, and support each posture from the ground up.
What should I wear to yoga class?
Most students are comfortable in stretchy pants or shorts and a tank or tee. Looser pants are not as preferable because they make it difficult to see the proper leg alignment. Yoga is practiced on a mat in bare feet. You may want to bring a sweatshirt to layer over your top until your body has warmed up.
What should I bring to yoga class?
If you have your own yoga mat, you can bring it. Otherwise, we will provide a mat and all the props you will need. You may also want to bring a bottle of water to stay hydrated.
How much do your yoga classes cost?
Yoga classes cost an average of $14-$15 depending on the package you purchase.
